Laser hair removal at Leslie Med Spa uses a medical-grade diode laser system, the same family of devices used by dermatologists across Canada. Unlike home IPL devices or older Q-switched lasers, our system pulses light energy at a wavelength specifically tuned to be absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle — disabling the follicle's ability to regrow while leaving surrounding skin untouched.
We've been performing laser hair removal in Newmarket since 2014, and the question we hear most often from new clients is whether the treatment is safe for darker skin tones. The answer is yes — our diode platform includes integrated cooling and adjustable wavelength settings that make it appropriate for Fitzpatrick skin types I through V (and with caution, type VI). What our system genuinely cannot treat well is fully white, grey, or fully blond/red hair without melanin — laser energy needs pigment to target.
